Accuris E4000 SmartBlue™ Blue Light Transilluminator for Gel Imaging
The SmartBlue Transilluminator works with most common DNA stains. It emits blue light at a wavelength of 465nm, perfect for excitation of most green fluorophors, including Accuris SmartGloew™, SYBR Green, SYBR Safe, SYBR Gold, GelStar, and GelGreen. The SmartBlue also works for excitation of ethidium bromide (EtBr). Downstream cloning efficiency is improved with DNA samples as the wavelength emitted from the E4000 does not damage molecular structure like UV light exposure. The safety of lab technicians is also improved as the blue light is not damaging to the skin or eyes (they are still high intensity LED lights and should not be looked at for an extended period of time).
The E4000 is equipped with an amber cover for viewing the surface and gel. It filters out the blue light and accentuates the DNA bands, making them easier to see. The hinged cover can also be pivoted to a 60º angle for easy access to the gel for excision. The cover may also be removed where amber glasses are being used.
The Accuris E4000 achieves an extremely evenly lit surface using precision engineered diffusers and filters. DNA bands are clearly visible even in ambient light. Brighter and more balanced images are achievable with the SmartBlue Transilluminator than from using an epi-illuminator which lights from the sides.
The SmartBlue Transilluminator is far more dependable than a standard UV illuminator. The high intensity LEDs have a service life of up to 30,000 hours. Unlike UV bulbs, the LEDs will not solarize and degrade over time. You can expect consistent performance at all times. The viewing surface is made of durable, scratch resistant glass that allows for the excising of gel bands. The E4000 is also energy efficient with a built in automatic 5 minute shutoff.
